Mullite is a mineral formed by aluminosilicate at high temperature. Mullite is formed when aluminosilicate is artificially heated. Natural mullite crystals are elongated needle-shaped and radial clusters. Since there is very little natural Moraite, it is usually synthesized by sintering method or capacitor method. Mullite mine is used to produce high-temperature refractory materials.

Since mullite Al2O3•SiO2 is the main crystal phase of mullite bricks, the properties of the products are mainly determined by mullite. Mullite is the only stable compound in Al2O3-SiO2 system under normal pressure and oxidizing atmosphere. Generally, the alumina content is between 65% and 75%. In addition to mullite, the mineral composition with lower alumina also contains a small amount of glass phase and cristobalite; the higher alumina content also contains a small amount of corundum. The refractoriness is high, which can reach above 1790℃. The starting temperature of load softening is 1600～1700℃. Compressive strength at room temperature is 70～260MPa. Good thermal shock resistance.

Fused mullite brick

2. Fused mullite bricks are made of high bauxite, industrial alumina and refractory clay as raw materials, and charcoal or coke fine particles are added as reducing agents. After molding, they are manufactured by reduction fusion method. The crystallization of fused mullite is better than that of sintered mullite bricks, and the thermal shock resistance is better than that of sintered products. Their high temperature performance mainly depends on the content of alumina and the uniformity of mullite phase and glass distribution.
